A Strong Defense
Starts With A Compassionate Ear

Being arrested and charged with a crime can feel like the edge of a cliff. You are rightfully worried about jail, fines or license suspension. You also worry about the long-term impact on employment opportunities, gun rights and your standing in the community. I will “pull you back from the edge” by listening to your story, explaining your rights and the legal process, and building a defense to preserve your future.

My firm represents people from all walks of life charged with crimes, including many students and staff from the University of Virginia. I have defended clients accused of every type of offense, from DUI, drug possession and theft charges to serious felonies such as robbery, aggravated assault and sex crimes. I also defend students facing suspension or expulsion in Title IX disciplinary proceedings at school, along with any parallel criminal charges.

Navigating
Divorce, Custody And Family Law

Dissolving a marriage and sorting out parenting arrangements leads to many questions and wrenching decisions. It can be overwhelming. Where do you even start? You can turn to The Law Offices Of Caroline Ayres for legal guidance and strong advocacy.

Having litigated many contentious cases in three decades of family law, I encourage practical and amicable settlements that foster healthy co-parenting and allow the parties to move on with their lives. However, sometimes it is necessary to go to court to break an impasse or to protect your parental rights and financial interests. I am a skilled and fierce litigator when my clients need to stand strong.

Looking At
Your Case From Many Perspectives

My diverse legal experience is your advantage. I have practiced law since 1981 in many capacities. Having served as a prosecutor, a deputy attorney general and a public defender, I am accustomed to looking at criminal allegations from all the angles. How will the government approach your case? Where are the opportunities to reduce the charges or challenge the evidence? I have served as a commissioner judge (temporary judge) in county courts and taught college and law school courses on criminal law.

Knowing the law and the legal process from all sides enables me to anticipate what opposing counsel will do and adjust course accordingly as your case moves through the system. I find the positives in each person’s situation, which I use to balance the adverse statements found in the warrants and indictments, to shape the narrative that the judge or jury will consider when deciding your fate.
